Positive FIT test and raised CRP

Hi

I’m very worried about some results and unable to speak to GP about them until next week.

I have had altered bowel habit for 4+ months but this coincided with gallstone attack so thought it was all connected.  Have now had a FIT test which showed Quantitative faecal immunochemical test 30 ug/g
(Above high reference limit) and Faecal haemoglobin detected (>=10ug/g).  The suggestion is an urgent colonoscopy.  My CRP is also raised at 22 but bloods otherwise normal except raised Gamma GT although much reduced from result at time of gallstone attack.

Bowel loose most days for last 4 months but get an occasional day where virtually normal.  No weight loss  or pain.  No obvious blood seen in stool but mucous present.

I’m trying to find out how likely this is to be bowel cancer and does bowel cancer usually cause a raised CRP?  I’m 53, female and very stressed.  Mind totally running away with me!  Also on waiting list for gall bladder removal.

Thanks x

    Hi ,

Just added a booklet for you to have a read of . Only 10% of people with positive tests actually have cancer so it’s quite encouraging on that angle . So many other conditions cause bleeding but we recommend everyone who comes through here to get the source of bleeding throughly checked out . The whole you miss more by not investing approach !

Not actually seen too many people refer to a raised CRP level . It’s certainly not an indicator on its own safari as I am aware given it’s an inflammatory marker as far as I know but tumours do cause inflammation to surrounding tissue but it’s certainly not one that I here mentioned very often and I have been reading here for over ten years !

It is very stressful but you would be surprised how many people pass through here and find the source of the bleeding is something else . However if not we are here , bowel cancer caught early has many treatment options .

    Take care ,

  • Hi . I’ve come across CRP indicator but only when I’ve had an infection. I was readmitted after my initial surgery and again my stoma reversal with an infected fluid buildup and my CRP was in 3 figures. The consultant monitored the level with a daily blood test to check that it was coming down which showed that the antibiotics were working.
As Court says there are lots of things that have similar symptoms to bowel cancer but hopefully you’ll get a colonoscopy appointment through soon then you’ll know for definate either way

Please let us know how you get on

    Take care
