I was diagnosed with colon cancer in December and   have had chemo which has shrunk the tumour, although I don't know by how much as I was told it hadn't been measured. After another scan , to check no other organ is involved, surgery is to be the next step. It all seems a bit vague as I don't know what surgery will involve or what to expect. Can anyone help?

Hi I’m a few months the other side of where you are now so it’s still very fresh in my mind how daunting it all feels. It’s difficult to be specific about what to expect because that will depend on the outcome of your scan. However, it sounds as though you’re on the gold standard pathway, as am I. If you click on my username you will be able to see my profile where I’ve written up a timeline of the process I’ve been through up to this point.

Have you been assigned a specialist nurse? If you have, it would be worth contacting her or him to ask for a bit more specific information around the particular questions that are concerning you. Mine is wonderful - rings back on the day I contact their helpline and is happy to chat through anything that’s bothering me, no matter how insignificant it seems.

    Wishing you every success!

  • Hi . Good news about the tumour shrinking. I’ve attached a booklet which has some good diagrams about the various operations and also some tips on what to take in and what to expect afterwards

Hope you get some news shortly
