Hallo, I've just been recently diagnosed with colon cancer. I'm really depressed, anxious and I don't know what the future holds for my family. Can I  get help on how I can deal with this?

  • Hi

So sorry to hear about your recent diagnosis. It is scary process for you and your family at the very beginning. But hopefully when they have gathered all the information together you will be able to get a good treatment plan in place and that does help to give a way forward with this .

Our helpline staff will be able to give you some information to see if there is any local resources or counselling available. Good on you for getting support. Remember your GP is also there to help manage anxiety. Ours was a great support .

    Take care ,

    • Thank you Court for the helpful advice. It's been really tough over the past few days for all of us. A real shock! Let me call my GP and find out, many thanks.
  • Meant to give you the number for the helpline ! 0808 808 0000.

Even as a carer my adrenaline was in overdrive. It was overwhelming but with the right support and information things improve.

Lots of treatment options for bowel cancer and your team will be very experienced in dealing with it .

I think most people here would agree the early days are very difficult ones when you are dealing with so many variables. Keep your head where your body is one advice given to me . It took a bit of practice but it is very easy to let your mind wander to worse case scenarios.
I think a lot of people forget the GP is part of your team to ease you through this . Ours was great getting us all over the tricky parts .

    Take care ,
