Hi, i am hoping I've come to the right place, my partner was diagnosed with cancer today, complete shock and is booked in to have part of intestine removed within next few days, I did the worse thing possible and googled it all and now don't know where to turn, due to covid he has been in hospital alone and won't ask the questions that need asking, will he be seen by someone for support/help to understand everything or is it something we need to arrange with a support worker or charity as I know most surgeons are helpful but have lots of patients to help xx hope that all makes sense xx

  • Hi.I am new here too. My husband was diagnosed with lower rectal cancer on 8th June. We still waiting for treatment  go ahead. It's a massive shock to us too. I did the same and googled and it was a massive mistake..we in limbo and not been contacted by anyone since diagnosis. It's a terrible situation...you will find support on this forum...xx

  • Hi

welcome to the forum ! I think we have all fallen into that trap but you are only human and it’s easy to do . Now you can get information from reliable resources.

    https://www.bowelcanceruk.org.uk/about-bowel-cancer/diagnosis/

I have included information from both bowel cancer U.K. and Macmillan .

One important thing to remember is until you know the location of the tumour in the colon or rectal area you will not know what  surgery your partner will have . My mum’s was located right side ascending and they were able to reconnect her colon and she has never had any real issues after the first few weeks . Others may have a temporary stoma that is reversed when the bowel has recovered . Others have a permanent stoma however they will come up with a plan that best deals with the cancer . If a stoma is needed a specialist nurse will train them on how to use it and others here will give you both support and advise .

We are here to assist you all . Ask any questions you like and hopefully someone will be around to help !

The staff will fully support them through the process . Covid restrictions are really tough .

Hope your ok . Not an easy time but it does improve with a good plan .

    Take care ,

    Court
