Dear forum

I needed some advice about whether I tell my clients and intermediaries about my Cancer Diagnosis?

I work with High Net Worth Individuals and business families UK and international on accounting and tax planning so am nervous to tell my clients and intermediaries about my cancer as concerned it may have a negative impact on me and the business. I have a team in place who is assisting me but I am the face of the business and clients will want me actively involved.

I have managed it thus far saying “had a procedure and took some time off” and with lockdown it’s worked as everything ok zoom or on the phone.

I’m not sure how I’ll react to the Chemo and Radio which will probably start in next 2-3 weeks. Please share thoughts and help Pray tone3

  • Hi

Your post struck a chord with me.  I had bowel cancer 12 years ago and although it was Stage 3 I had chemo and surgery and recovered well.  I lost a job due to my diagnosis and found the reaction of ‘colleagues’ surprising.  Some took the opportunity to accelerate their own career and there was a perception I had a terminal illness.
The impact on my career was devastating at the time!
It’s a difficult decision for you but you will have good days and bad days through treatment so may find you can work through especially as you can work remotely.  Perhaps sharing with some in your team that will support you and take the pressure off
Everyone has different reactions to treatment.  I found surgery fine ( scary but recovered well). Chemo was hard for the first week but then I recovered.

    Hope that helps!
    Good luck

  • I found your post interesting...It's not something I've come across here. I have had great support on this forum...yet I am also on Twitter, with approx. 5K followers....It's where, as an Artist I 'market myself' & direct people to my Website. In the past couple of years, since being on this cancer journey, I rarely referred to it on Twitter....However, a couple of mths. ago I ;came out' as it were - & gave some details. I had over 500 tweets that evening.....& sold two paintings because of it. For me, the response was very encouraging & positive. There are also lots of people that I follow, that are experiencing many forms of cancer there...& it's good to follow their journey & be in touch with them & give encouragement.

I personally thinks that's it's good to share your experience with all that come into your life. I doubt that anyone would react negatively. If they did, I certainly wouldn't want them in my life.

    Best wishes
