I had a colonoscopy done 2 and a half weeks ago, 10 polyps removed 2 were large. Had a phone call from a screening nurse to say one of the large polyps were cancerous and i have got bowel cancer. I had a ct with contrast dye last wednesday and now waiting to hear from the colorectal team for next step.

Not sure what the outcome is going to be, i was shellshocked to say the least and also very worried.

  • Hi  and a warm welcome to the board from me. These few weeks waiting for scan results, tests, meetings etc. are very stressful but once you have a treatment plan in place then things will feel a bit easier. Bowel cancer is notoriously slow growing and very treatable.

Once they have all your results then a team of specialists from all the different fields will meet and decide on a treatment plan for you. This varies from person to person but the gold standard treatment is to remove the tumour through surgery. You may have radiotherapy before to shrink the tumour and may need chemo afterwards but this will all be discussed with you at your next meeting. I’ve attached a link to a booklet from the bowel cancer uk board which describes some of the treatment and also some of the people and terminology you might come across.

Please stay away from googke- it is out of date, misleading and downright scary in places. Stay on here and the bowel cancer uk board and ask anything you like

    Take care

  • Hi, I was diagnosed 4 years ago after polyps were removed - after different tests etc went through surgery - it is very scary the thought of bowel cancer but I'm now clear so please don't be afraid as so much can be done nowadays.
