Hello

Im 26 weeks post radiotherapy treatment for pelvic and bowel cancer. Some days I'm so low the side effects have been horrendous.

Unable to work because of the lymphedema and swelling in my body and on top of that my friends have all disappeared on me, because I have Cancer. They say I've changed, I'm no fun anymore.

I dont feel like sunshine it's been a dreadful time and I needed my so called friends.

I live alone how do I come back from this. I've lost so much.

  • Hi  and a warm welcome to the board. I’m sorry to hear that your friends have reacted like that - unfortunately it’s hard to understand the effects of cancer when you’ve not walked in those shoes.

So you’re 26 weeks post radiotherapy? Are there any plans for surgery? I think we can all remember how difficult the treatment is so feel free to post on here and reach out for support? The macmillan support desk is also available 7 days a week if you want a chat with someone?
Have you also looked into local support groups? I know they have one at my local leisure centre and a lot of hospitals have Maggies centres? I’ve popped a link below where you should be able to pop your postcode and see what’s hear you

    Take care

  • Hello

I'm waiting for  CT scan date to find out the results. The largest tumour 1 of 6 was inside my saphena varux main vein very close to the femoral artery. Too close for surgery I'm told.

My biggest struggle now is that my life pre Cancer has dissolved and at 65 I'm lost as how to rebuild the post Cancer treatment me. This is an aspect no one mentioned before the treatment I'm just totally shocked I hadn't expected people to react that way.

    Thanks for the reply.
