My son had bowel cancer op 18 months ago they cut through his ureter during operation he now has a nephrostomy bag he is doing ok he just can't sleep he can go all night without sleep then has intermittent sleep during the day. Has anyone else had this he can't work at the moment.

It can be very common to have disrupted sleep patterns after a cancer diagnosis and treatment, but it’s very frustrating I’m sure for your son. It may be that having the nephrostomy isn’t helping.
It can become a vicious circle of being unable to sleep at night, followed by napping in the day as our bodies are out of our usual sleep rhythm.
Just checking a few things to see what may be causing it-does he have pain keeping him awake? Is the position of the nephrostomy bag and tube uncomfortable? It’s been very hot recently-does he sleep in a well ventilated cool room?
Does he use any tactics to wind down before going to bed? Maybe putting off electronic devices some time before trying to sleep? A warm, milky drink? Trying to listen to calming apps on the phone via headphones?
Ultimately it’s worth trying these sorts of things before resorting to any tablets from the gp.
