Has anyone on here had sepsis

  • Hi Rosie13

I had chemotherapy for endometrial cancer in 2022.

I became neutropenic during my last 3 cycles.

I developed symptoms of an infection and was advised to go into hospital on sepsis alert.

I went from feeling a little off and shivery to feeling really unwell an hour later.

When I got to hospital I was given an antibiotic drip and had full testing done- ECG, chest x ray, bloods etc etc.

They believe that mine was caused by a UTI but because I acted quickly and was treated quickly the infection was dealt with before it became a whole body infection/Sepsis. I had to stay in hospital over night but was able to be discharged with more antibiotics the following day. I had a few days at home feeling a bit rough but recovered in time for my next chemo.

I think the thing with Sepsis is that if there are any signs of infection, however mild, during chemo- then you contact the hospital and they will triage over the phone.

  • Hi

My partner had sepsis at Christmas time, and I’ve also had a life threatening bacterial infection when my bile duct became blocked.

Are you concerned about your son?

  • It was picked up from a blood test at hospital so he was admitted he didn't have any symptoms so one medic said sepsis the other said a very bad infection he was put on an antibiotic drip and later given an iron infusion he felt fine all the time and came home after 3 days.

  • Glad it’s sorted for him now-I was in hospital for 9 days and my partner was in for 11, but we were both feeling very ill. It’s best to take no chances if they did think it might be sepsis.
