Hello
BACKGROUND
I was diagnosed with rectal cancer in October 2020. Following surgery it was graded pT3N1 M0 R0 mid rectal tumour. I then had 6 sessions of FOLFOX chemotherapy. I had no further issues and following my 5 year colonoscopy last October I was discharged by the colorectal team back to the care of my GP.
QUESTION
My term life insurance expired this March and given the all clear I wasn’t expecting any issues, however it’s proved impossible to obtain life cover other than the basic over 50’s plans. I was told that insurance underwriters have qualification periods depending on the type and grade of tumour but it’s virtually impossible to find out what these periods are. I was wondering whether anyone had any positive experiences of obtaining life insurance following their treatment or possibly had any pointers as to where to look
Thanks
Hi Keith
Great news that you have been discharged back to your GP and remain well.
I am sorry to hear that you are experiencing difficulty with your life insurance renewal.
I wonder if it may be worth posting your question to one of the Macmillan advisors who may be able to offer additional support. I will pop a link below. Alternatively you could give the Support Line a call and speak directly to someone.
Ask an Information and Support Adviser - Macmillan Online Community
I hope this helps and that you can get something sorted soon.
Jane
Hi Jane, thanks for the advice and suggestion. It was actually the support line who advised posting on the forum as they were unable to help and cannot suggest any insurance companies due to Macmillan’s charitable status. I will try posting to the advisors now
Keith
Hi KeithW1 I had a quick look at some previous posts by putting life insurance in the search box and this is the only recentish one that suggests any companies?

Thanks - I did a cursory search for life insurance across the forum as I appreciate how annoying it is when someone joins and asks the same question repeatedly. I didn’t find that post though
I’ve contacted one of the firms listed - The Insurance Surgery and it did seem that they might be able to help. I’ll update my post if I’m successful to help others in the same situation
