I hope you are all doing well. I just wanted to ask if anyone here has had a right hemicolectomy surgery.
My husband had a right hemicolectomy on 25th November 2025. Out of 31 lymph nodes, 2 were positive. He started chemotherapy on 19th January. He is 39 years old.
Before starting chemo, he had a partial bowel obstruction and was admitted to the hospital for 3 days. After his second dose of chemotherapy, he developed severe stomach pain and vomiting, and he was admitted to the hospital again.
They did a CT scan and told us that he had a moderate to high blockage, likely due to adhesions. We are very scared because we don’t understand why he is getting obstructions when the tumor has already been removed. We are wondering if it could be because of something he ate (maybe eating a bit too much and not drinking enough water), or if chemotherapy slowed down his bowel movements.
During the pain, he was still able to pass stool, but he passed very little wind. They inserted an NG tube through his nose for four days, and he lost more weight. He also lost a lot of weight after surgery.
His oncologist delayed chemotherapy for one week. At the moment he is doing okay, but he is weaker than before. We are being much more careful with his diet now, and he is drinking more water.
When he has pain, his stomach makes loud gurgling sounds.
Please could you share any advice if you have experienced similar symptoms after surgery or during chemotherapy.
After the first chemo dose, he didn’t have severe side effects — only nausea and tingling in his hands. But the second dose was very difficult.
