So I did my sample doctor rang me to tell me it is over 400 I was shocked he said he is sending me for a colonoscopy but reading on here how many people have had scores of 400 plus and it is nothing to worry about I won’t be getting it done I think what is the point also I won’t be able to do the prep to it as with having cerebellar atrophy which has really affected me I haven’t got the patients anymore and that will tip me over the edge I just walk out of the appointments, but hearing most people are ok I won’t worry about it anymore
Johnboy007 That is such a bad idea. Please reconsider. I’ve seen people with a lot lower scores be diagnosed with bowel cancer. You really must have the colonoscopy - it may be something and nothing or it may be bowel cancer. Please please please have the colonoscopy
I can’t do it like I walked out of another test the other week for blood in my pee I couldn’t go through with it
i have read so many stories with saying they had scores of 400 and after the colonoscopy they were fine and I can’t put myself through that to be told all is fine I have told the doctor not to send me for one I would rather someone have my appointment and use it let’s see how things pan out in the months to come
Colorectal cancer near recto-sigmoid junction
Please please reconsider. If there is a tumour and it blocks your bowel then things will become dangerous
Hi ya
I will think about it but it won’t be easy but what are the chances of it being a tumour I am all up in the air so much going on I have Cerebellar atrophy newly diagnosed with diabetes type 2 but with my wife having Dementia things are not great I am 61 years of age
have a lovely weekend
Hi Johnboy007
Stats say that 1 in 10 colonoscopies results in a bowel cancer diagnosis. Yours is a pretty high reading which means that there was a lot of blood in your stool sample - it could be caused by colitis, diverticulitis, irritable bowel disease or it could be a tumour?
I’ve just spent a week with my parents and my dad has dementia so I’ve seen how difficult life is for my mum so my heart goes out to you. Could you maybe have a chat with your doctor or maybe the support desk on the number below?
I’ve said my piece now so I won’t nag you any further! Hope you have a lovely weekend too
Take care
Karen x
Karen
you can nag me anytime sometimes I need someone to talk to life isn’t great take care John x
Well I spoke with the doctor this morning he just said 400 isn’t that high let’s do another one in a few months and see what it is like
I explained my symptoms and having diabetes type 2 and everything else but he didn’t listen so I won’t be having another test what is the point
I don't mean to scare you but please do go for that colonoscopy! My dad had the same FIT reading back in December 2025 and it turned out to be a malignant tumour in his colon. If it helps, try to see the colonoscopy as a chance to rule out cancer rather than confirm it. Any FIT reading over 10 is supposed to put you on an urgent referral pathway for colorectal cancer if you are over the age of 50!
If the colonoscopy is difficult for you, can you ask your doctor if a CT colonography is possible instead? It's less invasive but you would still need to do the prep to empty your bowels.
Im sorry but the general rule of thumb is that any reading over 10 requires further investigation. Can I ask what other symptoms you’re having? Any of the below?
