Hi, i was diagnosed with Colon Cancer in September last year, I had surgery and got the all clear.

Ive been waiting for the results of a recent CT scan and my surgeon called me yesterday with the results, liver and lungs and other organs were clear, however I was told I have cysts on each ovary.

Of course my mind goes into overdrive and automatically thinks Cancer.

Is this something to be worried about?

Did the cancer metastasize, did they miss it in the last CT?

Has anyone else gone through the same? X

  • Hi - I had a tumour removed from my sigmoid colon in 2023, followed by Capox chemo, and have annual blood tests, colonoscopies and CT scans You’ll obviously need to seek the advice of your medical team on this but it was my understanding that bowel cancer metastasis will usually be in the liver and lungs. Speak to your oncologist.

  • Hi, thank you for your reply, im going to speak to my colorectal team today, hopefully they can put my mind at rest x

  • Hi  ,

You will need to speak to your team obviously, but I just wanted to say that a friend has cysts on her ovaries and had cancer. The two are not related at all and her cysts are just monitored.

Cysts on ovaries can happen.  However you do need to be guided by the medical experts on this.

    Best wishes

    • Hi, I have stage 4 bowel cancer with mets in liver and lungs.  Early this year I had a PET scan which detected activity in my uterus and thyroid.  I had an ultrasound on my uterus which detected 2 small ovarian cysts and 2 small fibroids which need no treatment.  I also had an ultrasound and a biopsy on my thyroid, both tests came back as indeterminate so I need to have half my thyroid removed at some point.
  • Hi, thank you for your reply, I hope thats the case, but my surgeon has said i need another MRI and then surgery, thats why I'm worried x

  • Always worth checking. I'm having another op in January, 'something' has been found on my scans and they can't tell if it's cancer or scar tissue without this major op so they are taking out everything a middle age woman no longer needs while they are in there to stop any chance of anything.  It's huge and I'm not going to pretend that I'm looking forward to it (far from it) or that I'm not scared that it is cancer, but better that than the alternative is my thinking!  Get it out before it causes any more havoc.  Wishing you all the best.

  • Hi Cerys,

Good luck with your op in January.

  • Im thinking if they're going to take my ovaries out they may as well take it all out, I font need any of it anymore.

Good luck with your op next month, i hope all goes well x
