Hi all. I just wanted to let you know that I really struggled with the bowel prep before my operation last year. A combination of stress and a life long fear of being sick (I must say all the way through my cancer journey I’ve not been sick once). However the fear of everything made my pre op bowel prep simply horrendous, I think I was supposed to drink 2 litres and I managed less than 200 ml. Thankfully my surgery went ahead and I had a very good outcome (clearly nothing to do with the bowel prep) Today I am preparing for my anniversary colonoscopy. My surgeon asked for me to have Citramag and senna bowel prep. I had 10 tablets (they are tiny with no chalky after taste) to take this morning over half an hour then I had to mix 200 ml of water with the sachet (I had to triple check because it’s such a small amount of liquid). It tastes pretty much like a dodgy batch of lemsip so nothing like moviprep. Later on I make another batch and drink half tonight and half in the morning. It’s working a treat so might help someone like me who feels nauseous with the stress and that nausea is the difference with being able to prepare for colonoscopy / surgery or not. Xx
Hi Scoutabout
I’m Anne, one of the Community Champions here on the Online Community, and although I'm not a member of this group I wanted to stop by and thank you for taking the time to share your experiences with the group. I'm sure others here will find it very helpful.
Wishing you all the best
Hi Scoutabout
Thanks for sharing that, sure that will be helpful to others.
I also could not tolerate Moviprep, don't know why just couldn't swallow it, made me gag...so I always ask for Picolax for all my surgeries and for all the colonoscopies. Also a much better solution! Picolax is two sachets which you take at different times mixed in half a glass of water. And then one just needs to drink a lot of water. Ditto to the bowel prep they gave you, this also taste a bit like dodgy lemsip. :-) But totally bearable. Hope your colonscopy went well.
Hey there. For me it was a combination of the antibiotics and the prep. I had no idea that were other options. I guess I wouldn’t because I was new to this.
Colonoscopy went really well. Thanks. I’m now free of cancer which I will never t take for granted.
