Hello, my husband has just been prescribed Lonsurf as a 3rd line chemo. I've read upon possible side effects but wondered if any of you have experienced them and if so how bad you felt they were? Thank you. Xx
My husband has been on this along with Avastin for a few months now, also third line treatment.
The main issue was that it caused low white blood cells, which meant treatment couldn’t go ahead and quite a few cycles were missed, but hopefully this has now been remedied with injections.
He has also has been having quite a few upset stomachs and cramps, but otherwise he feels he has less symptoms and it’s less time consuming than other chemo/targeted therapies he has previously undergone
Hi, thank you so much. Adrian hasn't been given Avastin, I'm not sure why, maybe because he said he was looking forward to having his picc line removed! So we need to be aware of stomach upsets and pain and possible infections going forward. It's his first day on the drug today, how long before side effects made themselves known? I'm conscious that Adrian's hb is low at 76 but they've gone ahead and will monitor weekly. What are the injections that your husband is having for low white cells please?
It did take a few weeks for the symptoms to show up.
The injections apparently stimulate the bone marrow, to help produce more blood cells and are self injected for 5 days over each 2 week cycles. Hopefully it will also prevent less infections.
We were told by the nurses in oncology that there was nothing we could do to help produce more, but that was actually not correct, and I only found out about the injections after reading another post on here.
