Just wondering whether I’m over-reacting…
I was diagnosed with bowel cancer May 24, and after chemotherapy and surgery was given the all clear in November 24. I had my 1 year follow up CT a few weeks ago Aug 25 and recently received an urgent appointment through to see the liver surgeons. I haven’t had a call / letter from my colorectal surgeon or nurse specialist with the CT results or explaining I was going to be referred to a different team - just the appointment letter out the blue!
Obviously I’m quite worried about the possibilities. But I’m also rather frustrated nobody has been in touch to explain the results before the referral. It could be gallstones or something benign, or nasty cancer spread. Similarly, I’m going to bring someone with me but without knowing the details I could have quite easily have not, which wouldn’t have been a nice way to have bad news broken to me.
am I overreacting to have expected a phone call informing me I was being referred to another team / MDT?
That is most strange and definitely not the normal procedure.
You definitely can contact your specialist nurse or your consultants secretary to ask what on earth is going on .
A lot of the time it’s to rule out benign cysts that can pop up so please don’t think the worst .
But you should have that information given to you before the referral and I would not be surprised if you have a clerical error there .
Take care ,
