Has anyone else had their ureta damaged during bowel cancer surgery?
Hi Rosie13 I’ve no personal experience but I know that radiotherapy can affect the urethra?
I don't think so but chemoradiotherapy might have affected mine to cause significant urine retention. This was spotted earlier this year (several years after chemoradiotherapy) following a routine CT scan and - after day case surgery at my local hospital under a general anaesthetic a couple of weeks ago - the problem has gone, Once again, clever and dedicated people working within the NHS.

I thought he had a nephrostomy for now due to the ureter being cut during the surgery? That’s usually done to let things heal and then he’d have another surgery to fix the ureter?

Just got back from appointment they are not sure if there is enough ureta to join to the party. H has to go to Leeds for scan and another test which I can't remember the name of it began with B. Told him he might have to live with it but he has to have it changed every week and a new one put in every 3 months he isn't going to be able to work.
I didn't have my ureter damaged but I recently had a very large kidney stone blocking the ureter and had a nephrostomy inserted to drain the left kidney. I was able to work just fine. My job may be more flexible than his but he should really explore what kind of flexibility he can get. Perhaps reduced hours would help him schedule changes outside work hours? I work 3/4 time and it really helps me.
