Hello,

I’m a 31 years old female. I’m getting really bad anxiety whilst waiting for an urgent colonoscopy appointment. I have been having rectal bleeding for at least 6 years when I went to the doctors about it then it was always said it’s nothing to worry about. But now I’ve got iron deficiency anaemia (which I have had on and off during this time) and mentioned it again, they did a fit test which has come back over >400.

I’ve only been getting the blood when I’m badly constipated and really strain. I don’t have any stomach or abdomen pains and I’ve times where I feel I have IBS but I know what foods sets this off.

Please any advice would be appreciated, I’m getting really upset about this and have young children making me more emotional!

  • Hi sorry you are going through this. It's such a worrying time. Hopefully you will get a date really soon so you can find out what's going on. It's good you are on track to get sorted.

My FIT was really high, but in isolation it doesn't mean a cancer diagnosis.  So many digestive issues result in bleeding.

Wishing you all the best x

  • Hiya, please try not to worry excessively -the colonoscopy is a superb tool from a medical point of view and will reveal what is going on. A high FIT number does not always mean cancer, there are many different conditions of the bowel and intestine that can give a high reading. Most of all, know you are among friends here-people who know exactly what you're going through. The important thing is that you are being investigated and that the problem whatever it is, can be solved Wink
