Operation

Hi Rosie13 Has he got a date yet? The obvious things like trying to stay fit and active and eating as healthily as possible. In the days before the op he may be advised to follow a low residue diet and then may be given bowel prep to take to clear out the bowel and sometimes a high carb drink to aid recovery. It should all be covered off at his pre-op

No date yet but he has to go to Leeds for the op.

Still no date but he has a meeting at Barnsley on Wednesday. Has anyone else had an operation done at Barnsley?

Is it maybe the pre op assessment at Barnsley and the op at Leeds? My pre ops and ops have been done at different hospitals.  If you say what the actual operation is called it might help people when replying as there can be different operations for bowel cancer.

I'm not sure what operation it is but they have given him a stoma bag to get used to today but say it could be up to 4 weeks before the op looks like it will be done at Barnsley now

It's a Lower anterior resection 

That’s what I had Rosie13 I had a stoma but it was later reversed x

I found it very usefull to use the practise bags.i got used to the feel of it,changing it with ease and the realisation that no one could tell I was wearing one.very good for my self esteem.I would thoroughly recommend it

Thanks for your reply it's good to hear other people's experience. He has had a pre op at Barnsley this morning all went well. Hope he doesn't have to wait long for the operation now 

How long after the pre op will he have to wait for surgery
