Hi all, I had surgery 3 weeks ago and am doing well, but feel like my blood pressure is pretty low..... not dreadful but can be 100 over 65. Heart rate low 50s, once 49! Am fairly fit but not an athlete by any stretch!

I did read this can be normal post surgery.  Also a bit anaemic which probably isn't helping matters!

Just wondered if anyone else had this? Ps I appreciate not everyone has a home BP monitor, I got one as mine usually rockets in the surgery or hospital Rofl

  • You do not say what kind of surgery and whether a bit anaemic is because of the surgery. Only 3 weeks after surgery but you seem to be doing well and positive from what you say. If you can, I suggest seek advice from your contact  nurse or specialist for guidance on dealing with anaemia and to discuss your BP. No doubt some gentle movement/excercise for short periods should help, and also maybe seek guidance on diet at this early post-surgery stage. Best is to seek and follow advice from the medics. I had major colon surgery and it took many weeks to build up to feeling a bit more like normal, Best wishes.

  • Thanks, it was a right hemicolectomy.  I was anaemic before, had 2 infusions but still a bit anaemic on discharge.

I am up and about, walking a few miles a day and feel OK just tired and sometimes almost in a state of torpor Rofl. A bit like I imagine a bear to be before hibernation! To be honest that's probably not a bad place to be!

The GP is re testing iron in a few weeks so will seek advice on BP.

I hope you are doing well.

  • Hi Arial 88,

I echo what Anbou said. Check with your specialist nurses and I am sure you will get advice and reassurance.

My operation is in a few weeks. I have had pernicious anaemia for around 20 years and receive B12 injections on a 12 weekly rota. Next one due in late March.

Rest up and be kind to yourself. X
