Hello everyone,
I think this is probably quite niche, as I'm assuming that many people who have had elape surgery are past childbearing age, but I wondered if anyone had any experience of this?
I'm in my 30s and had the elape procedure last year to remove rectal cancer. I froze my eggs at the time and had chemo afterwards. This was last year and I had the all clear in December, so still recovering really, but thinking about having children in the near future (I will need to wait for a year after chemo at least).
It would be good to understand risks and even how possible pregnancy is with the kind of procedure I have had. I know that hernias are more likely (stoma and perineal) so not sure how much this increases with pregnancy.
Obviously, I will speak to my doctor, but medical professionals I've spoken to so far haven't been especially knowledgeable on this topic!
If anyone has any comment on this topic, it would be much appreciated :)
