I have crohns disease so have colonoscopies every 3 years ,first one 15 years ago found 2 non cancerous polyps but no more since then .I had a colonoscopy 3 months ago ,bowel prep was excellent and nothing was found ,so scheduled for 3 years again ,as my crohns is in my small intestine a MRI was done as well ,it came back as either a stricture or carcinoma at least 3.5 cm in my COLON .My GI said very unlikely as just had colonoscopy which was clear ,might have been a bowel spasm or similar ,and as I don't have crohns in my colon ,not a stricture .Anyway just to be sure another colonoscopy was done ,by very experienced gastroenterologist ,bowel prep was once again excellent ,nothing found again ,so my Gastro is happy with results .I also spoke to my GP ,who has all reports and she feels there is no need for further tests as 2 colonoscopies would not miss something the size of a walnut. I'm not sure how to feel my family all happy with results but I'm still concerned.

  • It's natural to be worried. As you know, Chron's put you at an increased risk. But I would trust the colonoscopy results over the MRI. Imaging results are great but nothing is quite like a first hand view. And the colonoscopy gives your doctor an up close view of your colon.

It is far more likely that the colonoscopy would find something the MRI missed than the other way around. That's why they do the colonoscopies instead of just an MRI.

You've had a nasty scare. Try to set it aside a.d focus on other things. (I know, easier said than done.)

  • Thank you ,I'll try not to keep worrying
