I just need to know what I can do for the pain I have from colon cancer, as I am still waiting for surgery in my right side. When I was on chemo the pain went and now it's come back. Due to me fracture of my right hip in October, they delayed surgery for cancer

Had loads of tests it's the waiting I was meant to have surgery on 9 January but got cancelled now I had another pet scan this January 2 weeks ago I heard nothing I don't want to go and sit for hours again in AE and I just at my wit's end

  • Hi  - have you contacted your GP? You can ask for a same-day appointment with the Duty Doctor -telephone triage, if offered - and they can prescribe painkillers which are safe for you to take (based on your medical history). Have you been taking regular over-the-counter Paracetamol?

  • Sorry for late reply yes I have but some days they don't help

  • Yes I been taking panadol advanced

  • Your GP can prescribe something stronger than Panadol for break-through pain, or perhaps add an anti-inflammatory (if you are allowed to take it). I was initially taking Paracetamol, Ibuprofen and Oromorph for break-through.

i weaned myself off the Oromorph, and stuck with the Paracetamol and Ibuprofen regularly. Then eventually weaned off the Ibuprofen (over a few weeks). Now I use Paracetamol whenever I need it.

I personally found it a bit tricky to get the pain relief combination right.

I hope you feel better soon xx

  • Thank you I allergic to ibuprofen and paracetamol doesn't seem to touch it I just can't wait until they took us away from me and it's it's starting to hurt more like before had PET scan 15 th January we just waiting for the results now maybe they can get on your surgery to take it's just the the waiting
