Hi everyone.
I had my first colonoscopy in September 2023, when they found the dreaded tumour. I had the operation to have it removed in November 2023.
I had my last CT scan in August of 2024. Now this coming Monday I have a colonoscopy scheduled, apparently they are due every year for 5 years,
although it's been 15 months.
My question is; how do you cope with the stress? my anxiety is through the roof and i'm having panic attacks.
Take a deep breath. Tell myself it is fine even though I don't believe it completely. Find things to distract me, take a nature walk, journal, meditate....
Nothing makes the anxiety go away but you can give yourself breaks. Every time the worry cycle starts. I redirect my thoughts even if I have to do it multiple times in a short period. It becomes a habit after a while which makes things easier.
I am awaiting my first surveillance scan results right now so I know what you're going through.
Thank you.
I try my best, I am putting techniques in place, those that my therapist suggested, like you said, meditation, music, nature, etc.
It's so difficult though, I think that once you've had cancer, you're always looking over your shoulder, so to speak.
I try to tell myself i'm very lucky to be having this surveillance, knowing the state of the nhs.
Good luck with your results.
