I have ileostomy stoma reversal soon following surgery for colon cancer. I have been told that light incontinence is a possibility, also a feeling of increased urgency. Either way, it would seem some kind of protection would be available. The only product I have found at the pharmacy is about as thick as a babies pull-up nappy, very bulky, uncomfortable and conspicuous. There must be something lighter and more discreet? I'm looking for recommendations please?
Thanks,
Peter
Hi PeterPandora I use a long ladies panty liner and position it towards the back of my underwear. I would recommend doing the exercises on page 24 of this booklet as the urge to go can come on quickly and sometimes it is better to ‘hold it in’ until the urge has passed then get to a toilet? It now appears that I can’t copy a link on my new iPad but there’s a booklet on the bowel cancer uk site called Regaining Bowel Control which is helpful.
I also found it handy to have a grab bag in hospital with clean underwear, wipes, ointment, pads/liners for a rapid walk to the toilet. When my bottom got very sore I used the dry wipes that I had for my stoma then disposed of them in a poo bag.
Hope the reversal goes well - there’s also a reversal section on the Ileostomy, Colostomy, Stoma support page on here?
Take care
