Was diagnosed with stage four colon cancer back in 2022, I’ve had chemo and six operations. Three times I’ve had the “all clear” just for it to be back within a few months. I had what I hoped would be my last surgery back in July, but it’s back again. A tumour in both lungs and something suspicious in my liver too. So now waiting for a PET scan, so I’m sort of used to this waiting game but it definitely doesn’t become easier. I think this is the first time where my team has seemed worried also, as it’s been pointed out that if there is a tumour in the liver too it becomes so much harder to treat.
Hi Razor22
I hear what you are saying . However it was just after the two year mark that my mums disease stopped showing up as frequently and she had a few big stretches of nothing for years . Seven years once then from 2016 to 2022 .
I also understand that approaches change in terms of treating two organs at once but there are people using a maintenance chemo as it keeps things stable and they have been doing it for literally years . You might like to look on the bowel cancer U.K. form and connect with some of them for encouragement.
As they say in a stage four setting there are many steps to Ned and that certainly was the way for my mum . But she did live life for 15 years like that. You always have second opinions and I did here someone else say that they like to achieve stability when it’s in two places with a systemic approach .
My mum passed as an older lady this summer . She had chemo in 2009 and 2010 . Surgery on a lung met in 2016 but no chemo . Her disease came back but given her primary was removed in 2009 I think her own body did a great job of controlling the disease . Apparently it was all part of the original spread back in 2009 . But it must have still been there but she had managed to stabilise it .
Its discouraging for sure and that I understand but have a look and connect with the people using maintenance chemo and hopefully that will give you the boost you need to head forward again .
Take care ,
Court
