D3bz,
I put up with severe diarrhoea for a year (10 times a day) before seeking medical advice, where a large rectal tumour was discovered. The Oncologist recommended a loop ileostomy as a first stage and this operation was performed quite quickly. It made a significant difference to daily life in terms of not having to stay near a lavatory all the time and to get out and about without worry. In my case I could carry on with my life whilst waiting for chemoradiotherapy and then major surgery. It was all done about three years ago and life is pretty good as a consequence. I decided to keep the ileostomy because it works so well and (even though the prospect of wearing an ostomy bag was not something I was looking forward to) it really is no big deal now that I understand the process and keep to a maintenance regime. Back to a near normal diet and muscle and strength fully restored. I was 70 when the surgery was performed.
This constant need for a lavatory can really wear you down and affect those around you too. You become self-conscious and embarrassed in company. Also, your system probably doesn't get the nutrients from what you eat which makes you weak and tired and also affects any oral medication you are taking.
Perhaps contact the hospital ASAP to seek advice on your Dad's circumstances regarding the proposed appointment as they have probably seen all this before with other patients.

Thank you for this ... this is more him going to the toilet and doing nothing .He just thinks he wants to .We have asked the docs why is the only at night this happens and we just get (don't know ) we can deal with the severe diareah as such just that's one of thr many side effects to his illner ..They wouldn't give my dad a bag he's to frail they have said ..
I see; unfortunately I hadn't read your other post which had more details. Have you had any particular advice on what foods would be most appropriate for his condition, to try to restore his strength without interfering with his digestive process? I was warned of the effects of dehydration and encouraged to drink water-based fluids regularly. Still do, particularly at night.
