Hi All - am post right heli-colectomy surgery and back to work. I find that my energy levels haven't returned after 12 weeks, i occasionally get tremors in my hands,  and am a bit muddled with both written and spoken word. Its been 3 months. Anything helped anyone with their recovery?

  • Hi Another Sunrise welcome to the forum. Im thinking that that was a big operation that you had and being back at work in 12 weeks is remarkable. However, in the big scheme of things that is early in the recovery process and I'm thinking that you should be kind to yourself and not expect to be firing on all cylinders at this early point. How are you feeling about being back at work, are you enjoying bring back? I think you take life as easy as you can for as long as you can and let that body of yours recover and repair itself.

  • Hi  As Granny says it is still quite early days and maybe you weren’t ready to go back to work quite yet? Could  you have a chat to HR and explain that you’re struggling and maybe go back to a phased return?

It might also be worth getting bloods done at your GP? I know I was low in vitamin D and potassium for quite a while after my op. I’ve seen a few posts from people with bad diarrhoea after a right hemicolectomy  which can be a result of acid bile malabsorption so that could be worth checking out if that’s an issue for you?

    Hope this helps?

    Take care

  • thank you - i do have to remind myself that this is a major surgery and i have to be kind to myself and gift myself the time

  • HR have been fab. Whenever i've done bloods it shows i've been dehydrated so i need to address that in the way i consume fluid.
