Post medical menopause bleeding

Hi there, I’m posting here really as I’m just a bit scared to say the least.  I’m NED from stage 4 bowel cancer and had medical menopause in 2020. I’ve recently had very heavy post menopause bleeding… it’s potentially been going on for months but was put down to coming from a perineal surgery site… has anyone had similar please?! My GP was so unconcerned and put it down to HRT that I’ve been on for ages so no reason why it should be that.  I’ve messaged today to get them to put me on a 2 week pathway for the scan they ordered as it’s a good two month wait otherwise.  I had a clear scan in April but this has to be something right?? I’m also in pain, nauseous and so exhausted!

I think I just needed to anonymously rant as know they’ll be no answers until after the scan… I don’t think I can do cancer treatment again… Disappointed

  • Hi faithdw,

I'm going out on a limb here and disagreeing with your doctor. Heavy postmenopausal needs to be checked out.

I'm in the US so I'm not familiar with your medical system. Is there any way you can get in to see a gynecologist? If you still have your uterus it is the probable source of the bleeding.

I had a similar problem about a year before my cancer diagnosis. I lost so much blood i was anemic. It turned out to be an otherwise harmless fibroid tumor. So don't panic and assume it's related to the cancer (it could be but there are many other possibilities).

In any case, keep advocating for yourself, I think you are 100% right to be concerned.

  • Hi there, sorry I’ve just seen your reply! Thank you, yes I was right to be concerned… they found a large cyst yesterday and I’m now back on the two week pathway to see a gynaecologist.  Fingers crossed it’s “just” a cyst.  I had to seriously push to get the scan so quickly… it’s exhausting it really is x

  • Hi

I would have agreed with Susan and say post menopausal bleeding needs investigating, so I’m glad you’ve been seen now.

I hope that nothing other than a simple cyst is the cause, but if you need any further help please let us know. My cancer was cervical, but I’ve also needed to be under the care of colorectal at one time.
