Hi ,I'm new here, just had a call from my GP on Friday to say that my FIT test had come back abnormal and read at 49ug...... she says I have to have a colonoscopy and should here from the hospital within a week.... I'm extremely worried....well...beyond worried.... does anyone know with a 49ug results what's the likelihood of having colon cancer etc? Is that a high result or?? I have 2 young son and am a single parent and also my Dad died at 54yrs old of bowel cancer...so that's really adding to my worry.... any info would be greatly appreciated
Hi D.m f I’ve seen a lot higher figures than that and only 1 in 10 colonoscopies results in a bowel cancer diagnosis. It is important to get this checked out though especially if you have bowel cancer history in the family.
The FIT test shows that there was blood in the sample tested but this can be due to other things such as piles, colitis, diverticulitis, polyps etc.
Hopefully you will get an appointment through within the next couple of weeks and please let us know how you get on?
Take care
