Hi to all out there! I feel like I have lived on this bloody computer since my Dad got diagnosed 2mths ago! We live in New Zealand, and are trying to get a grip of what is going on and would love to here of positive stories from anyone else going through the same thing!
My Dad has always been a fit and healthy man. He was concerned with a lump he felt in his tummy... after testing we found out this was liver mets from advanced colon cancer! He has been tender in his tummy, but not in pain at all. He started chemo 2 cycles ago, with xeloda tabs and oxaliplatin. I am worried that living in little old New Zealand that my DAD may not be getting the best treatment, that there maybe better things out there! He is a fit man and has a better appetite than he has ever had, so we are hoping all of these factors will make him respond well to the treatment. I would love to hear from you all x

Hi all. Well we had Dad's 'Celebration of Life' on Saturday night. It was absolutley perfect. Poor Mum got herself quite worked up about it, but is so thankful that we had it, it was such a tribute. We had the memory book, a slideshow that I put together of Dad, and his old 'go to buggary hat' (that was the name of his building, come fishing, come mucking around hat!) on the table. There was so many people there, and my brother and I spoke again, and so did many of Dad's friends - we all had a beer and a yarn and I can't tell you how proud of my Dad I was, and I know that after probably Dad saying 'I don't know what all the fuss is about' then he would have thought his tribute was fantastic! It really helped Mum as well, just seeing what an impact of this 'good kiwi bloke' had on so many people. I really does make me smile, that in Dad's 67yrs (yes even though still feel ripped off), he did so much, and really left a 'Foot Print' in so many lives - Thank you Dad..... Jules xxx
Jules, I loved your description of your dad's wee hat!!! The day sounds real and meaningful. I am glad it went so well for you all. I thought of your dad on Saturday. Hope these good memories sustain you all.
Well I don't mind telling you all my mum has bags more energy than me. We have just completed her new patio. She had lifted it all a couple of week before she was diagnosised. She felt a little constrained that she could not participate!!!!! 69 soon.( dont think she gets this part). She does hope to help me white wash her house after her surgery. I give up. I did follow it with a wee talk on post op care.
Love to all .

Hi girls,
Jules,
It sounds wonderful, your Dad would've loved it I'm sure. What a great name for a hat! Please tell me you are keeping it.
Court,
My Mum is 83 and has just been diagnosed with Leukaemia, couldn't care less and won't let it stop her. Just goes to show, you can't keep a good Mum down!
We, as ever, are still waiting.........
Take care
Love Ann xx
Hi everyone,
We are now under starters orders!
Appointment with new liver surgeon on Monday, blood transfusion on Tuesday, Cystoscopy to ascertain bladder involvement Wednesday. Thursday will be just plain boring! I guess we then have to sit back and wait for the outcome of everything.
Any more news Court?
Take care
Love Ann xx
Ah great, busy for you right enough. Mum is off and running too. Week after your Nev , which gives us time for a wee holiday. Always a winning formula. HA. I shall be thinking of you both next week. Really pleased that it is eventually moving.
Take care everyone. Remember anyone can join in.
Love to all,

Hi this is the first time I've been on this - just noticed this thread of chat - sorry to hear that so many other people are experiencing having a parent with bowel cancer. My mum was diagnosed with bowel cancer last year and also like some others there are other sites involved - it is obviously frightening and upsetting for everyone. After surgery and first lot of chemo we are expecting another scan and more chemo, let's hope there are no surprises in the scan, it is always the worst waiting. i think they will try a new drug next time, any reassurance or encouragement would be much welcomed. sending everyone lots of positive vibes
Blimey Court, you and your Mum off on another holiday! Good on her, hope she enjoys it and gets geared up for her op.
Hi SSaz,
I Have a husband with bowel cancer with liver mets, and, unfortunately a Mum with newly diagnosed Leukaemia. What surgery has your Mum had? Yes, you are right, how we all love waiting for scans and results! What is the new drug they are going to give her? We are all about encouragement on here, that and hoping for the best, all we can do really isn't it. Anyway, welcome to our little band, let us know how things go.
Jules,
When are we going to get a photo of you then? I would do it but being a very old lady havn't the first idea how!
Take care all
Love Ann xx
Hi all, Court and Ann things are rolling fantastically for you guys! Awesome! Have another wonderful Holiday Court - love the sounds of it! Ann, have up loaded some more photo's - oh you crack me up... you old lady!! NOT! I have mastered the loading photo business, but have been trying to change by avatar for a week now, and still haven'y managed too!! Really bugging me! Anyway, the photo of me and Dad at my Wedding is such a special one, but like I said - cheating a bit as is 14yrs ago now! Hence i look pretty good in it! HA ha! My mum is doing Ok, she is such a trooper, getting back into indoor bowls and trying so hard... though i know her heart is breaking, is really making Dad so proud. Lovely to see all the action on here, like the good news. Take care all - Jules
Hi Jules,
Lovely photo's, lovely family. Is it just me or is your brother the image of your Dad? Your kids look happy, healthy out doors types. Don't know what the time span is between your wedding and your brothers but you look good in both of them, your Dad looks so proud in yours. Your Mum looks a trooper, only hope I prove to be one!
The avatar thing is a spanner in the works job. Have you tried to change your what's on your mind banner, 'cause you won't be able to do that either. Admin are aware and on it.
I am now psyching myself up for Monday, dreading it!
Love to all
Ann xx
