Hi to all out there! I feel like I have lived on this bloody computer since my Dad got diagnosed 2mths ago!  We live in New Zealand, and are trying to get a grip of what is going on and would love to here of positive stories from anyone else going through the same thing!

My Dad has always been a fit and healthy man.  He was concerned with a lump he felt in his tummy... after testing we found out this was liver mets from advanced colon cancer!  He has been tender in his tummy, but not in pain at all.  He started chemo 2 cycles ago, with xeloda tabs and oxaliplatin.  I am worried that living in little old New Zealand that my DAD may not be getting the best treatment, that there maybe better things out there!  He is a fit man and has a better appetite than he has ever had, so we are hoping all of these factors will make him respond well to the treatment.    I would love to hear from you all x

    Hi Magda,

Thanks for the good wishes.  How are things with Gregory just now and when does his chemo resume.  I do hope he gets some relief when he starts again.  Nev is having a break at the moment because of the surgery and I am really hoping he will resume next week, I want them to keep zapping!

    Take care

    Ann xx

    Hi all

Ann I am so pleased to hear that Nev is doing well and hopefully resuming treatment next week.

Alex had his normal chemo 4 weeks ago but suffered afterwards.  he was very sick and his stomach was not right for the next 3 weeks.  He was due to have chemo last thursday but as he was not well and as we are going away on holiday next week he and his consultant decided to postpone it until we return.  We are going to Mauritius as a surprise for my mums 70th birthday.  (she has no idea she is going, and my brother and sister are flying over from Oz).  I think Alex had a stomach bug but we won't know for sure until he has the chemo again.  I think he had got himself into a bit of a state as he really did not want the chemo to make him ill for another 3 weeks and while we were away.

Patrick I have been reading may off the treads where you have posted and I really hope that you are feeling better.  I assume you are retired.  Did you have to retire or did you have to retire.  You might still be working.

Alex gave up work last year as he was told he might only have a year but he appears to be doing really well.  It is so hard because this week he is a pic of health and nobody would believe he was so ill.  Somedays we don't mention it at all because life seems so normal and then you remember.

I really wish everyone best wishes and big (((((hugs)))) on here.  I read so many threads and some are so sad and some so uplifting.

    Love to you all

    jash,

I retired 5 years ago - thank goodness. So at least my wife and I have had some excellent times over the last 5 years - we've been together for nearly 50 years and married for 41 years.

wow, Alex and I celebrated 23 years marriage last month, hopefully we will make 25.  We always said we would renew our wedding vows then as we lost our wedding rings and got replacements and we would like them blessed.  It seems a nice idea and something for Alex to aim for.

You sound as though you were a very fit and active before you got ill.  Are you well between treatments or awful all the time.  Alex seems so well when he is off treatment that it is so horrible starting again. Especially when we had the last 3 weeks.

    Take care

Hi all!  So great that Nev is back home again Ann - and doing well.  Dad is still suffering from nausea and diarrhea.  Obviously a side effect to the Folfiri treatment.  Of course this is making him loose weight, which we don't want to happen.  The onc had given him Fortisip (By Nutricia) to help him from loosing weight and put it back on.  The only problem is that he has vomited on that (It's of course milk based) and it has completely put him off it and he just can't 'stomach' having any more!  Has anyone got any ideas?  Either with the stopping of vomiting and diarrhea or with putting weight on?  He is due to have treatment again on Tues (Providing Bloods are OK of course), and then back into it I guess!   Hope this finds everyone on this thread OK, and love to you all.  We have a long weekend coming up, with Monday off... Yeah!

Hi Jacqui, what a great thing to look forward to - 25yrs marriage!  You say that Alex is well when he us off the treatments also.  What treatment is he on at present?  And how about him, does he get sick all the way through or is there a little reprieve? What even happened to our perfect world ah!?  Take care - Jules

    Hi everyone,

I can't quite work out what is going on, I get emailed when anyone posts but tonight it seems to be completely random and nothing is making sense!

    Jules,

Don't know what to say about your Dad.  The normal thing with D & V is to fast for 24hrs, (except drinking water)  which doesn't help if you are trying to gain weight. I have had the same problem with Nev, he is allergic to dairy foods so when he wasn't eating I made him up smoothies with soya milk, banana, honey & porridge oats, seemed to work.

    Jacqui,

Happy Anniversary for last month, heres to the next one.  Mauritius eh, sounds lovely, are you from Australia?  I hope Al is ok for the holiday, when are you back and when does he resume treatment? (That sounds really odd but I do know Mauritius is not in Australia honest)!

    Patrick,

Young love in the 60's,  mine was a decade later to the soundtrack of the `Bay City Rollers!

    Much love to all

    Ann,

I was only 17 at the time. It took a long time as I am European and she is Chinese so the families were not exactly over the moon, but they have been good and welcoming on both sides ever since - and that has been brilliant.

    Hi all

Jules - Alex is having at the moment Oxaliplatin Xeloda and Avastin.  When he had his last lot 4 weeks ago he was so ill and it was a huge shock.  He had the same treatment from June 09 to October 09 and then continued with just the Xeloda and Avastin until March 10.  He then had 6 months off as his tumors had shruck by about 75% and the oncologist wanted his body to have a rest.  He restarted all 3 again in September and this is the 1st time he has ever been sick.  I think it was a sick bug which he could not shake off as on of our sons came home sick the next day and then complained of stomach cramps for a few more weeks.  Hopefully that is the case but we won't know until Alex has his next lot mid november. Generally he is well in himself but has a few bad days 4 days after treatment.  Just tired, washed out and feels sick.  He does not tell me too much as he does not want me to worry.

Unfortunately I am from the sunny shores of England.  We are going to Mauritius as my sister emigrated to Oz 25 years ago and my brother then decided to follow 4 years ago.  As it is in the middle of the 2 countries that is where my dad has decided to take my mum.  Unfortunately at the end we will be returning to dark, cold miserable evenings and my brother and sister will be returning to the start of summer in Oz.  I think they had the right idea.

It would appear that we are all waiting for something to happen.  Either chemo to restart, scans coming up or results due.  I hope everyone has what we class as good news.

Sorry Ann but I think I might have gone a little of track with the thread and that might be the odd emails although I get a copy of every thread twice sent to my in box.  is that normal too.

    Take care
