Hi not been on here recently and it’s that time ,had my first yearly scan since being diagnosed and treatment on my tumour. Is it normal to feel so worried about these scans ? How did other people get through the weeks off waiting for the results ,not coping at work not sleeping it’s like a nightmare ! And at the same time thinking I am so lucky to be here so the feel awful for thinking this way!!!
Hi Fraser1 Yes it’s completely normal and hence the term scanxiety. All you can do is try to keep busy and distract yourself and fingers crossed that your results come back quickly.
I’ve attached a link to a post about follow ups - some of the information may be a little out of date now - but the general info might be helpful?
Take care

Hi Fraser
Scans are always a worry, getting results take time....goes with the territory.... keep occupied ....try to enjoy yourself....
Treated for bowel cancer 2017 ....anterior resection....I was finally discharged from monitoring Dec 2022.
Best of luck and take care
Peter
Thanks just keeping thinking will they be in touch if there something sinister before my appointment or do they wait, trying to keep busy but not been sleeping and just keep thinking another four years off this sorry .I know a lot of people have got it worse than me and keep getting annoyed at myself need to pull my big girl pants on lol
All the very best to those waiting scan results .
It’s just horrible waiting but great when it brings the longed for good news .
My mum had over 60 scans and whilst we got better at it , it was still stressful .
You are perfectly normal Fraser1 . I do wish they were available quicker . It would help . Sometimes our GP gave mum the results if they were through the system .
Take care ,

Hi Kareno62
I’ve just logged on to this forum for the first time in ages - largely because I’m approaching year one CT scan and colonoscopy… appointments have started arriving. Sounds like you are a month or two ahead of me in having had your scans. I’ve realised I’m beginning to be apprehensive/nervous about it and need to work out how to deal with that now ahead of the waiting for results bit which you’re in.
So I’m replying to say good luck with your results. And also to say thank you for posting, because it feels like timely support and solidarity and reassurance!
Useful too reading the replies.
Take care folks,
Birchtree
