Scared about bowel issues

Hello there people.

Wonder if I can get a little bit of help or advice from people in the know please. I've had issues with my bowels for the last year or so now. A lot of constipation most of the time with no signs of relief from laxatives or anything. Constant back pain and lower abdomen pain. Had a clear colonoscopy which relieved me mentally for little bit but I'm still having really unpleasant gastrointestinal problems. My back hurts all the time now and I'm scared I've got bowel cancer that has metastasised to my bones particularly my spine but I have pain in most of my back especially in the lower back. My legs and feet ache all the time too now. Is this likely at all that a) I have bowel cancer and b) It's metastasised to my bones (most of my back including my spine and both of my legs and feet) in such a short amount of time?

My doctor sent me for CT scan of my abdomen and pelvis which I had last week. I rang my doctor and they said nothing is back yet. If it was really bad, would I have heard something by now? Really scared I have bowel cancer thats spread to my bones and that's why I feel so awful right now.

Any advice or reassurance would be very much appreciated as I'm really concerned right now that it's going to be the worst possible outcome

Thanks

  • Afternoon MagnetoX,

It seems that CT scan results always take about two weeks before the results are available, with the odd exception for emergencies. It is a matter of waiting for a skilled radiologist to analyze the images in detail, rather than a quick glance. Perhaps call the person who actually requested the scan as they are usually the first to receive the results before they are distributed to others.

  • Thank you for your reply. It was my doctor who ordered the CT scan so I guess I just have to wait.

  • Hi  A clear colonoscopy is a good sign and hopefully your scan results will be back soon. Bowel cancer doesn’t generally tend to spread to the bones so it may be the worry and anxiety that’s causing the tension in your body and stomach issues?
There are lots of other things that can cause similar symptoms to bowel cancer like ibs, crohns, colitis, diverticulitis etc. It sounds like your doctor is being very thorough so try to distract yourself until the results from the scan are back and then take it from there?

    Take care

  • Thanks for your reply. I'm in constant abdominal and lower back pain and I'm struggling to think its anything other than cancer even with a clear colonoscopy. Pensive
