Hi all, I had a CT scan of chest and I received a letter today from oncologist, and it says from my CT scan  ‘small left upper lobe lung nodule’

what does this mean? I don’t know what lung nodule means. Can this become cancerous? Anyone had same experience? It’s a little unsettling to me as all this time my CT scans have been clear.

thank you

  • Hi

I have replied on your other thread but just picked up on the size mentioned .

The radiology department note every last nodule in the area and unless your oncologist has suggested action it’s definitely too soon to read anything into it .

Lots of reasons for these to pop up and sometimes they just disappear too .

    Take care ,

  • Hi

I have had a few CT scans along the way and mine always shows up a lung nodule. Turned out it’s a stable one and been there since a bout of pneumonia probably about 2003.
there can be a range of reasons for a lung nodule to be present  such as  scarring from previous chest infections etc etc. not everything is sinister although we always assume they are.
it’s only when we have these scans that we find out.
hopefully yours is benign and unrelated to anything else going on in your body.
they’ll soon tell you if they are concerned !!
    take care

  • Hi there, I was diagnosed with CC in January 2022 and had a surveillance scan at the beginning of last month.  Was notified a week before Xmas that a tiny nodule had appeared on my peritoneum which threw me into an absolute tailspin.  Was told that the consultant wasn't overly worried, they see this a lot and that it may well be reactive in nature, i.e. to inflamation or injury.  They'll scan me again in 3 months. I went straight on the phone to a lovely Macmillan nurse who calmed me down and reassured me that if the docs were worried they'd have me in asap for tests etc   I still keep experiencing waves of anxiety though, I just can't help it. It was helpful to read Court's reply that at this stage it's definitely too soon to read anything into it.  Also, from reading other posts  it seems that these nodules can be quite common.  Wishing everyone a happy new year. x
