Tiredness

Good morning everyone,

 I’m having a problem with extreme tirednes/fatigue.

I had an unsuccessful resection 3 months past where part of the tumour could only be removed and a stoma couldn't be formed due to scar tissue. I have a follow up operation in February to complete the operation by a specialist.

Meantime during the day I can sleep for two to three hours in the afternoon.

I am on a liquid based morphine take on average twice a day, plus a slow release morphine tablet 10mg twice a day.

I am 66 years of age.

Thanks Robert.

  • Hi Robby63

Your operation ordeal sounds tough and your poor body has been through alot.

My operation was much simpler than your and I only had liquid morphine and diclofenic tablets.

I think I sleeped 2-3 hours a day too, if not more. A mix of power naps other times in full on zonk outs. I liked to think of the downtime as time for my body to heal. Even over a year post op, I still have wipe out fatigue phases - I learnt to predict a bit and plan flexibly for the rest.

Good luck. Pace yourself and most importantly be kind to yourself

  • Hi Robby63,

That's exactly how I felt on morphine after my surgery.  Morphine and I just don't get along I guess?

I refused it after the first 3 doses and felt much better but, then again, that's easy for me to say when I didn't have the harrowing experience you had!

Do chat with your medical team about how  you're feeling and the side effects of morphine it could be your tiredness is normal.

Take care and look after yourself,

    Angela
