Any advice please

Hi, I'm new to this and would really appreciate any help or advice.

My husband was diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer, and has just completed his 3 round of chemo.

Recently he's been having really bad wind pains. It's like the wind is in his stomach but doesn't go anywhere, which causes really loud gurgling followed by the pain. Has anyone had this and can you provide any advice or suggestions on anything he can take to relieve this?

I've spoken to nurses and dr's who have all just said buscapan and peppermint tea, but that's not getting rid of it.

Any help would be welcome

  • Hi @D13

My mum had that but think buscopan was the only solution she was offered too .

  • Hi there I had constant wind and into the bargain had vomiting during the night on occasions before I was diagnosed with bowel cancer and had 2/3 of bowel removed in May 2023 followed by 8 sessions of Capecitabine that will soon be ending in early January 2024.

Before the cancer was diagnosed the GP practice thought it was a gastro problem with the wind and sickness and they pit me on 2 x 20mg of Omeprazole which I have continued to take before and since the operation. Ok it may be the surgery that has lessened the gastro wind problem but it might be useful just asking about that medicine.

However can I just add that having come through the op and subsequent chemo the one thing that I have found to be of benefit is to trust your medical team as they know more about the symptoms etc than we do.

I am not a medical person so just putting the situation I experienced on the table for you to possibly consider with the medical team.

  • I was adviced to try massaging stomach as if tracing bowel processing direction and keep circling around. I also did lots of mint and adjusted diet.
