Have I got cancer again?

Hi. I have a colostomy after surgery 13 months ago. Results from my CT scan in October showed no signs of disease recurrence. I had my CEA test 2 weeks ago and waiting for the results.
For the last 6 weeks or so I have been feeling totally exhausted, falling asleep during the day (I am retired so can’t blame it on working too hard) and have pains in the front and back on my left hand side.
I am absolutely terrified that the cancer has returned and my mental health is so fragile at the moment.
Any advice would be welcome.

  • Hi  I think the fact that you’ve had a clear scan in October is very reassuring and you could maybe chase your CEA results up as 2 weeks seems a long time for a blood test result?
The tiredness could be down to a number of things? I think this time of year with the dark nights and rubbish weather can lead to a bit of a slump in mood and energy. Do you take any vitamins? My previous doctor insisted all the family took vitamin D especially at this time of year when there isn’t much sunshine. Perhaps your doctor could organise some bload tests for you just to check that you’re not low in anything?

Unfortunately there is always the niggling worry that the cancer might return but I found that each clear scan and blood test pushed it further back in my mind. A lot of people have found this paper helpful?

  • Thank you Karen for your reassuring and kind words. I have recently moved and my records and results have gone missing lately. I will definitely check with my doctors on Monday. I have liver disease too so maybe it is just a case of everything just needing a check up. I am going to make myself a cuppa and read the link you sent me. Lesley x
