Awaiting results and scared.

Hi everyone,

So I had a large polyp removed from my bowel 3 weeks ago, I still have not had any results despite them saying 2-3 weeks, I’m so anxious and scared.

I called the GP last week and they said they can see some results pending but can’t view them yet. I now have a telephone appointment booked for next Monday which will be 4 weeks since the procedure. I’m dreading the phone call, just keep thinking the worst.

I try to be positive and think it will all be ok but then I start panicking again. My stomach has been all over the place since the procedure.

Like everyone I just want to know what’s going on and know what I’m facing.

  • Hi  It’s horrible waiting for the results isn’t it but try to remember that thoughts are not facts. Worrying is not going to change the result and will just make you feel rubbish and cause your stomach to churn. The nurse that did your colonoscopy did not seem unduly concerned so try to remember that and be patient until your appointment on Monday?

Sending you a big virtual hug and please let us know how you get on?

    Take care

  • Hi Cowgirl 82

Yes the waiting in between procedures is worrying at times. However as Karen says worrying will not change the result.

Take it from someone who spent almost a year going through things and different procedures from reflux: potential ulcer and finally after endoscopies and colonoscopies followed by ct and MRI scans with contrast the good news that I only had cancer. Surgeon plainly set out what he intended to do and after the initial news I had cancer I didn't hear too much for my thoughts racing. Best if you can to have somebody present during discussions as sometimes your thoughts will inevitably wander if you get news you didn't want.

I know its difficult but try and concentrate on other things as worrying may well increase the acidity in your stomach etc (apologies if this is wrong) and just give you more concerns. Worrying won't change the outcome and I used the technique of saying "it is what it is" and I'll get through it whatever happens.I felt It also helps to talk about the big C if thats the news like me you were to get.

Finally got tennis ball growth and 67% bowel and polyps removal (but thankfully had not to get other than a sliver of the liver to confirm the surgeons opinion that it had not spread to liver or anything else). Have to admit that the pre-surgery advice suggested more to come out but thankfully only the large growth and bowel parts came out in the surgery and my stage was reduced from 3 to 2.

Now on session 6 of 8 (inevitably with some side effects that are unpredictable ) on chemo looking forward to scan (not really but it has to be done) around March 2024 (2 months after chemo ends) with hopefully the all clear.

Try and stay positive and eating regularily with as much exercise as your body feels comfortable with so that you are in the best condition to deal with whatever comes. It is what it is......

Take care and be positive if you can

    All the best

  • Wow, what a journey you have been on. I really hope you the best outcome.
no worrying won’t change things I know this but I’ve had a rough year and felt that with how my luck had been it’s likely to be cancer.
thankfully I got my results late yesterday and it was a tubular adenoma with no sign of malignancy. I am however still searching for answers to as why I’m still feeling like crap , so am Now awaiting yet another drs appointment so hopefully we can get to the end of all this.

  • Hi  Thanks for the update. Good to hear that there’s no sign of malignancy and I really hope that you’re able to get to the bottom of your problem and next year is a better one for you

    Take care
