Good Morning dear friends,
I went into hospital a week ago today for a resection of the lower bowel and a permanent Stoma.

However, they couldn't remove the full lower bowel through the rectum because of scar tissue from radio and chemotherapy, it could have resulted in a full bleed out.

They removed what was called a disc shape of the bowel where the tumour was sited, in the hope it has all gone. I have to wait two seeks to find out the results from the lab.

If negative, I go back in again for another operation this time through the rectum to remove any small residue of the tumour.

This is what I don't understand, I have two keyhole incisions and a long pubic line incision.

Why go into the rectum?

  • Hi

I do hope all the resection margins come back clear for you and you don’t require further intervention.

Rectal tumours are a bit out of my knowledge base as my mum was right side ascending but I think part of what I have read depends on location of the tumour in the rectum can determine different types of surgery . I will try and get some info for you .

This is quite useful I hope , as it shows the different options .

I think different techniques are used surgically for each approach .
If you should require a different operation you could ask your surgeon what they call it and we could try and link you in with people who are further down the road to offer experience.

    Take care ,
