Hi don’t no if anyone has had this but the other day I felt like I really wanted to poo but obviously not has I have a stoma through having bowel cancer two years ago which they got all the cancer , so I sat on the loo thinking it might be mucus but it was 2 lumps of like a beige colour ball shape both the size of a meatball , it was frightening at the time there was no smell whatsoever, so basically I’m asking if anyone on this site has had the same experience. Many thanks.

  • Yes. I had two occurrences about a year ago. I passed a few marble size spheres through my stomas. Painless but disconcerting. They were hard and like fine sawdust but could be crushed with some effort. Hospital suggested they were a combination of fat and fibre accumulated in my system some time prior to surgery which eventually were discharged. Not happened since and - in my case - nothing to worry about.

  • Hi glad it seems nothing to worry about, the only difference is mine never came out of my stoma it came from my back passage which really frightened me, mine sounds similar to yours like a sort of sawdust inside, but to feel sure maybe ring my stoma nurse, I’m trying to veer away from that in case it’s something else , but thank you for replying.

  • Hi

This doesn’t happen to me as I have an end colostomy but it’s really very common, and for it to come from the back passage rather than the stoma. I can sometimes have the urge to poo but I know nothing would come out as I’m sewn up inside so I don’t sit on the loo, but just wait for the feeling to pass.

  • Yes you will have that. My husband had a stoma and he experienced this too it's something he was told would just always be there but nothing concerning. He had to end up wearing pads at the end up so days were worse than others.

  • Hi Leslynn. Yes it’s totally normal and you did the right thing just sitting on the toilet and passing it
