Upper abdomen pain after colon surgery

Hi,

I have completed my colon surgery 6 weeks back. Thankfully biopsy reports came as very localised , stage 2 and they said I don't need Chemo or any treatments further as of now.

Last 2 days I have mild pain in upper abdomen right above the stitch ends . Initially I thought its gastric related but in a day I realised itz  mostly when I do walking or moving and it's around the right abdomen muscles. So I believe itz muscular related..

It's not very severe though, pain is mild but pricking now and then when I move.

Has anyone experienced the muscular abdomen pain after surgery ? Should I be concerned about it ? Should I need to discuss with GP or my colorectal nurses on this ?

Regards

  • Hello BNotts

I am sorry to see that you have had surgery for your bowel cancer and I hope that your recovery is going well.

Regarding the pain that you feel is probably muscular I would advise you to get it checked by your GP or colorectal nurse. It could well be muscular as you say but since your surgery is fairly recent I think it is always a good idea to let someone know- if only for a bit of reassurance.

  • Thanks for replying , OK I will get it checked from my GP today just to reassure.

  • Good plan. I had some twingy like pains after my hysterectomy last year and it seemed to be where everything was still healing inside. When I had my post op check at my chemo consents appointment- I was told at least 12 weeks for the healing inside- although outside was fine.
