Tiredness and naps

Hi everyone, I finished chemo last June 2022. Had bowel tumour removed Jan 21. I had my scan and colonoscopy January 23. Updated bloods done beginning of June 23. All ok. The last few weeks my hubby has noticed I’m napping at the weekend and going to my bed earlier at night. I’m 39. Not sure if it’s anything to worry about or if its hormonal even the start of menopause. its got me worried since he mentioned it

  • Hi MJ84,

I finished chemo for womb cancer Aug 22 so a bit after you. I still have fatigue at times and still sometimes need a nap during the day- not everyday now but perhaps a couple of times a week. I spoke to my team and they said this was normal and it can take a couple of years to get over it all. I am also starting to feel a lot better so do more which would also explain it.

I think mention it to your doctor and think about noting down when you do need to nap or are particularly tired and keep a sort of diary of  it. On days where I do too much I tend to pay for it the following day. Sometimes when you write it down it can help pin point it. Its reassuring that your bloods are ok but I would mention it and hopefully get some reassurance, rather than worry about it.

    Hope this helps

    Jane.

  • Thanks Jane! Yeah I’m like you not napping everyday. Maybe a couple of times a week. Mainly at the weekend when I’m most relaxed I think. I’ve left a message for my Colo nurse so I’ll wait on a call back from her. Maybe not the right person to call but they did say if I was worried about anything to give them a call. I suppose it could be anything. Having 2 young kids in the mix maybe a factor! Lol

  • I think generally it can take a while to also process everything that has happened and that during the treatments everything is full on, then treatments finish, you feel a bit better and start to do more. I am sure your Colo nurse will be able to help or if not will be able to give advice of who to speak to.

I also found that I don't always sleep as well as I used to and sometimes still can have sleepless nights so to catch up with the occasional nap seems ok to me. It does get better though, slowly as long as you try and pace yourself, which is hard to do as a Mum of 2 young children!
