Hi all. I hope you all keeping safe and well. I had an operation in November 22 for colon cancer. My doctor spoke recently of stoma reversal but I have been told via his secretary that he needs me to have a flexible sigmoidoscopy but has not told my why.
I wanted to ask has anyone else had this test in relation to a stoma reversal operation. Thank you.
regards Eric
Hi EricNHL .I had an X-ray with contrast enema before my reversal which confirmed that the bowel rejoin was fully healed and the reversal could go ahead. Perhaps you could ring your stoma nurse to ask?
Take care

Hi EricNHL
I am now 8 weeks post-ileostomy reversal and recovering well.
When I saw my surgeon in August 2022 regarding a reversal he said he was happy to proceed subject to a clear CT scan and a sigmoidoscopy. The sigmoidoscopy was to see how the original join had healed and whether the diameter of the opening was sufficient to allow comfortable bowel movements.
Hope you are able to get the procedure - I lost too much bowel to allow for one so my stoma is a permanant part of me now - be sure you get a full picture of your options, and good luck.
Hi. Thank you so much for taking the time to message me and for your advice it is much appreciated. Take care.
