Hey, new here!!
Suffered with Endometriosis for years, during a check of bowel they found pre cancerous polyps and then did camera investigations routinely until they were happy. I was told I had haemorrhoids and that is why I get some bleeding.
Skip forward quite a few years and the bleeding is a lot worse! Gynae needs to be looked at again but looking at 2 year wait! Tried to get GP to listen and she pursued with qfit test and where normal range is 0-9 mine has come back at 400.
Im not one to google doctor so I avoided it at all costs and GP said we will book a scan, next thing I know I’m having a CT scan and a camera and I have letter received talking about Cancer.
Im not silly I know deep down there would be a chance but to get this information by letter has thrown me? Is that how it happens? I know nothing is definite and they are just investigating but a letter, really?
Can’t talk to mum as she been through a lot and wouldn’t cope well with this. Husband is petrified and just isn’t talking. Adult daughter lives at home with grandson and I’m not sure how she would take it, so can’t burden her. So the only ones that really know are my two frenchies but apart from farting and snoring they not giving me much help! Hence the midnight scrolls to see if anyone else has had similar experience, is this is how it is all done?
If you read this far well done!
Hi Bauer I’m so sorry to hear how your situation has been handled so far. I think the short answer is NO! My sister had a similar experience only last month. She’s had gastric problems for quite a long time. Her hospital sent her for a ct scan and gave her leaflets about cancer! We were horrified. I was diagnosed with bowel cancer back in 2019. I hope you have some idea of when you’ll get your results? It’s really hard when you don’t even know yourself what you’re dealing with. This community is amazing as a source of information and support. I’m not going to say try not to worry, it’s easier said than done. Take care.
Hi Bauer and welcome to the board. That doesn’t sound a very diplomatic approach from the hospital. There are lots of things that can cause a positive FIT test like colitis, crohns, diverticulitis and only 1/10 colonoscopies results in a cancer diagnosis.
As you say there is nothing definite and it’s good that things are being investigated. You are right to avoid google - stay with the facts and you should get an appointment through within 2 weeks of your referral.
I was told after my colonoscopy that, from their experience, they were 99% sure that the tumour they saw was cancerous and the lab test confirmed that. It’s natural to worry and I can appreciate you not wanting to burden others unnecessarily so feel free to offload on here anytime.
Take care and let us know how you get on?

So I’ve had a CT scan - normal. Had a camera - normal but could not all the way around and was very painful. Had this last time but this time I could not have gas and air as I have had a op in my ear in last 12 weeks (3 weeks to be exact!) had a muscle taken from side of head to rebuilt ear drum and then skin graft over. Was interesting as op was on left ear and haven’t been able to lie down let alone lie on that side! So with no gas and air it was just too painful. So now I need to have a CTC CT scan or something to that affect that is booked for next week!
thanks for replying
I’m so sorry to hear what an awful time you are having. I can’t imagine how painful a camera without help from gas and air must’ve been! I don’t actually know what a CTC CT scan is. I hope it’s early next week. I hope after all that you’ve been through and have yet to get through, you get the all clear.
