Hi all,
It’s been a long time since I’ve been on this forum. My Dad was diagnosed with Bowl Cancer in June last year. He had his tumour removed in November and had many issues related to the surgery. They removed most of the cancer but a few lymph nodes remained but didn’t think much of it. Dad continued with another round of chemo until yesterday my sisters and I found out that the cancer had spread to 3 other areas in his bowl (loopholes) as well as to his lung. Unfortunately it is terminal but we’ve been given 2-5 years depending on how well surgery or chemo goes.
I’m only 17 and my youngest sibling is 9 months. I have no idea what to do or how to react. I’ve just finished my A-Levels and was so excited to begin my summer and head off to uni but now I’m not so sure of what the future holds or how long I’ll have left with my Dad. I can’t fathom that this is happening to me and my family it all feels so cruel and I know that’s such a selfish viewpoint as my dad is the one who is truly suffering.
If anyone has any advice on how to deal with terminal illness I would really appreciate it.
Thank you,
Isabel
I am so sorry you have to deal with this at such an early age . I am wondering about phoning our helpline to see what support they can get you . It’s a lot to process and they would be happy to help .

My mum has been dealing with a spread since 2009 . Just because something is not curable does not mean it’s not treatable and bowel cancer is fortunate to have a lot of treatments available.
It’s also good to remember stats are an average of a population of people and that includes lots of older people like my mum who are just not fit enough now to have a full package of treatments. Other conditions are also present for them .
Sadly not all people do well but some do and that’s the hope we all hold onto .
My mum has had it twice in her liver and twice in her lung and still she battles along .
But please do have a chat with our helpline staff and see if we can get some support around you .
Or I can ask the admin team here to get in touch with suggestions if you like .
I am also here and happy to listen .
Take care ,
Court
