Hi everyone
I'm Steph from the Community team
Here is a new thread for carers, family and friends. This is a space for you to chat, share experiences and support each other through issues related to your loved ones bowel cancer. The previous thread will shortly be locked as it was getting rather long which can make it difficult to navigate.
Please remember that we also have other dedicated spaces on the Community for carers, family and friends. These spaces exist so you can support each other away from members of the forum who might be dealing with their own cancer diagnosis:
Supporting someone with incurable cancer forum
You would be welcome to set up another new thread like this in one of the above forums. Please just let us know if you would like any help?
We hope you will continue to find lots of support from each other and the Community. We're here to help, so please do let us know if you have any questions or support needs by emailing us at community@macmillan.org.uk
Les in a ward now and actually having oromorph due to the pain. The physio told him he should not be in pain. His drain is coming out tomorrow. The med is making him very sleepy as he has never taken any tablets and oxygen of course. I am back home but obviously travelling with other daughter tomorrow and until he comes home. Mentally and physically I am exhausted with worry.
I hope you are all coping in your own way. I am thinking of you all. Sending hugs Maggie xxx
Hi Distraught
My mum has had two liver resections. She was most definitely in pain at this stage . It took her a good two weeks to really turn the corner .
The image of her in the ward is still with me all these years later . However she has no memory of it at all ! I guess the meds helped there .
My mum had a spinal but took a few days to balance out the oral meds and prevent breakthrough pain .
Hang in there. You will see big changes soon .

Thank you court.. I am hoping he will be home on Monday or Tuesday then just one more big op to go xx
That’s great news Distraught . He is doing well . The liver starts to regenerate quite quickly . It really is a remarkable organ .
Good to get this part over with .
Send him my best wishes and you too . It’s exhausting but you will get there .

Thank you court. I am just exhausted. Like Helen I will travelling and it will be rush hour when we come out so may take about one and a half hours every day now. We are going before visiting to get some dinner in the canteen.
you are all so supportive thank you xx
Morning Maggie!
Hope you're a bit better today. Yes as I said your head will still be all over the place and you will be exhausted but hopefully in a way it's partly a `relieved exhausted` that at last some progress has been made treatment wise. I remember Jay had a drain in after his operation too they found a little bit of infection but managed to get rid of that. Hard as I know it will be, but try and get some rest wherever you are and think positive. Bless you. Take Care.
Vicky xx
Hi Maggie I am sure he would be in pain after his operation only been a couple of days he will feel much better when drains are out and more comfortable in bed. The oromorph will help Simon had it helped him sleep sure he had it for 10 days. This is very early days baby steps everything is crossed each day he will start to see little signs of improvement. You will be in your bubble at the moment like it is not all real praying for you all xx
Hi all. Well Les had a spike of temperature last night. His inflammatory marker was a little high so they are keeping him in over the weekend. He has not been hungry at all. Mr Hammond came round and said the next one is his bowel when strong enough. He just does not feel hungry and he needs to eat to get strength but because of the bowel he is so wary. He will be staying in longer than expected now.
I hope you are all coping xx
My mum was 11 days each time . It’s big surgery and better to be there with a full compliment of staff to run after him and keep and eye on him. Plus you will be exhausted yourself .
Don’t think my mum ate much at that stage but we made up for it when she got home . You maybe want to ask the dietitian for some help as he will have his bowel to consider too .
Take care ,

Thank you court. I do hope he is out on Tuesday. I am going to ask for fortisip or something similar. The oromorph just makes him sleep apart from the fact that it is boring and he is in pain. I really hate seeing him so vulnerable. I don’t want him home unless he is well enough and strong enough. Fingers crossed he starts picking up. It really is so upsetting. Thank you for your support xx
