Hi all,
Hope everyone is as well as they can be.
I'm recovering well from a second pelvic extenteration due to a recurrence in the lymph nodes. The surgeons took out everything they could see, however pathology results show very small margins in 2 areas so it is classified as R1.
I had a meeting with my Onc yesterday and she is reluctant to give me mop up chemo, she says there is no evidence that it will be of any benefit and it could do me more harm than good. I do trust her and she has had my back from the very start 2.5 years ago, but, I was hoping for chemo to knock back any micro disease. I think if I pushed her she would give me oxy and 5FU for 3 months but she made it clear she does not advocate this for me. She wants to watch and wait with 3 monthly scans.
She is going to get a few other opinions and call me back later in the week. I just wondered if anyone has been in the same situation.
Many thanks
Michelle
Hi Star74
Well I for one am hoping it’s all on the right side of the margin .
Mum never had mop up chemo for the exact same reasons . They preferred to stockpile it to use on visible disease .
Certainly be interesting to see what other oncologists would do . I can totally see your point though about the margin and tackling that now . That makes sense to me too . But what would I know . Maybe also check who she is consulting with . Be good to cast the net wide in these circumstances.
I guess it’s like lower stages with lymph node involvement using it as belt and braces .
Take care ,
Court
