Chemo question

Hi everyone:

I had my first of 12 cycles of Folfox & flourouracyl on Thursday - the nausea is grim but the vile taste is awful, every drink or mouthful of food tastes foul, as I have a stoma I must keep hydrated and fed but it's been difficult.  As my chemo is in two week cycles will the bad taste & nausea last the full 14 days or will I get a few days normality in between?  Also the inability to drink cold drinks or eat ice cream all through summer - same question really - will it be the full six months or will I get possibly 7 of the 14 days being able to taste normally?

Thanks, all input gratefully received!!

  • Hi

It’s one of the few things my mum complained about and she had chemo for two years . She added a little hot water to bring  cool drinks up to room temperature.

She could not eat ice cream but she could take a milk shake with ice cream in it as long as she let it sit for a while and bring it up to room temperature. She was only sipping it slowly anyway .

Apparently the tongue has a rich blood supply so the chemo is quick to surface there .

I can’t remember her having it all the time . But will leave others with experience to address this part .

    take care ,
