Hello everyone,
my mom has stage 3 rectal cancer. She has completed her 6 weeks of radiation/ chemo tablets combined and stared IV chemo. This chemo wasn’t for her and caused blood clotting. The next step is to have surgery and remove her tumour. However we first need to wait on the scan results to see if her tumour has shrunk. She says she feels it has and is no pain like she was before. I am so worried though, I hope it has decreased. I am due to fly back to my life in Australia on Monday the same day the results will be given to my mom. I feel sick with worry.
does anyone have any advice on how they got through the waiting or any hopeful news.
Thank you,
Hi Tina,
I Am really sorry to hear about your mum having a reaction to the chemo.
my husband is at the same stage, he had 5 weeks of radiotherapy and two weeks of chemo after the scan the doctors did say the tumour had shrunk very well, but couldn’t tell us by how much.
im sure your mums tumour has shrunk with the radiotherapy. My daughters live in Dubai so I know what you’re going through leaving your mum to get the results. Can she not have someone else go with her maybe a friend or neighbour.
I really hope you get great results and I the surgery goes well.
good luck with it all.
best wiishes
sandra
Hi TinaTina
I had 5 weeks of chemotherapy tablets alongside radiotherapy, and my tumour shrank by a third. I didn’t have any other treatments until my surgery three months later. That was in 2019. Try and stay sitive. There is no easy way to deal with the waiting. Most of us just tried to keep busy and stay as fit as possible. Fingers crossed for a good outcome for your mum.
I had 5 weeks chemoradiotherapy and my tumour shrank from 4cm to1cm. I felt that the treatment had had some effect as the bleeding had stopped and I was passing bigger stools. Hope your mum has similar news x
Hi Sandra,
thanks so much for your lovely message. So good to hear that your husband's tumour had shrunk. Good luck to him with the rest of his treatment/ or if he is having surgery.
it’s nice to hear that another family is in a similar situation. My dad is great and he will be with her, I just worry especially when I’m not at home. But my mom wants me to continue my life. Similar I’m sure to your daughters.
thanks again and lovely to hear from you xx
Hi Jools,
thank you for sharing your story/ journey with me. so Do you mind me asking at what stage were you diagnosed?
It’s always so great hearing successful treatments like that. Good for you, I’m sure it wasn’t easy.
I hope my mom has a similar outcome. Xx
Hi TinaTina . Yes i had a rectal tumour so had a Low Anterior Resection and they were able to remove it with clear margins ie. a good clear surrounding area. The histology report showed 2/17 lymph nodes affected so I has follow up chemo but that not everyone needs it and it is just the belt and braces x
